The first Wednesday in November sees the return of National Stress Awareness Day. This year National Stress Awareness Day will fall on the 6th November 2024. This is a day for us to heighten our awareness around how stress affects us and the people around us.

Most people will suffer from stress at some points in their lives, and it is widely thought that a little stress can be good for us in terms of spurring us into action and allowing us to get things done, however, when times are hard, stress can be debilitating and very bad for our health and wellbeing.

How to cope with stress

Most of us will have experienced times in our lives where it feels like everything is getting on top of us. Work, finances, health, friends, families and even world events can all have a major impact on our stress levels. Sometimes it feels like whatever we do we can’t catch a break and this can lead us to feel heightened levels of stress.

When we are going through hard times, we often feel like we can’t see the wood for the trees, and that can lead us into a downward spiral. Unfortunately stress is not something we can eradicate all together so we have to find a way to either minimise stress or manage stress.

How to manage stress

When we are in stressful situations it is easy to find solace in unhealthy activities. Drinking too much, smoking or vaping are easy ways to distract ourselves from stressful situations, but unfortunately unhealthy coping strategies will only offer a very short term solution to dealing with stress.

The right way to go about minimising stress is to try and take hold of the situation and to create healthy coping strategies that will allow you to manage the outcomes that you can control.

The NHS website gives us ten stress busting ideas that include the following:

  • Be active
  • Take control
  • Connect with people
  • Have some ‘me time’
  • Challenge yourself
  • Avoid unhealthy habits
  • Help other people
  • Work smarter not harder
  • Try to be positive
  • Accept the things you can’t change

Treatments to help manage stress

If your stress is at the point where you are really struggling we would always suggest that your GP should be your first post of call. Your Dr will be able to help you and suggest medication or organisations that can help you cope with stress.

If you are looking for ways to manage your stress, or if you have been thinking about how you can look after yourself better, so that you don’t struggle with stress in the future, there are a range of wellbeing treatments that help you to unwind and relax.

Managing stress with ‘me time’

Therapeutic treatments such as a Fire and Ice Facial or a Hydrafacial can be a great way of taking you out of your routine for a while and will allow you to experience some relaxing downtime away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

At The Grove Skin and Laser Clinic in Swansea we have a warm and welcoming clinic environment where we love to pamper out patients. Facials can be a great way to get some ‘me time’ and melt away your stress, and they are popular with both male and female patients.

Women’s health services

We also offer a women’s health service because we recognise that women may experience higher levels of stress around certain times of their life such as menopause and perimenopause. Our women’s health services include talking therapies, nutrition advice as well as some medical treatments that we can offer to help you improve your outlook to manage more stressful times in your life.

If you would like to know more about how we can help you to manage your stress, drop us a line, as we would be delighted to hear from you.
