We are all familiar with the term ‘weight loss injections’ now that Ozempic has become part of our vocabulary. Ozempic was originally created to help treat patients who are type 2 diabetic, but it soon transpired that it was also an appetite inhibitor, meaning that patients who were on Ozempic didn’t feel as hungry as they normally would. The result was that patients who had been struggling with their weight were all of a sudden able to lose fat, without the usual struggles they had come to expect when relying on calorie controlled diets and exercise.
The rise of Ozempic
When A-listers like Oprah and Sharon Osbourne admitted to using Ozempic to help them lose weight, many people wanted to know more about this ‘miracle drug’, and sales went through the roof. This has led to the Danish firm that makes Ozempic becoming Europe’s biggest company by stock market value, with 85.3% of the global obesity market.
Ozempic is no longer available in the UK for patients struggling with their weight. However there are alternatives available such as Wegovy and Mounjaro.
Weight loss at the Grove Skin & Laser Clinic
At The Grove Skin & Laser Clinic in Swansea, we always try to offer treatments that help our patients sense of wellbeing, whether that be a massage or an injectable aesthetics treatment; the aim is to leave our patients feeling better about themselves and with a renewed sense of confidence.
Being overweight can put a real strain on our bodies, as well as our physical, emotional and mental health, so it is important that we do whatever we can to try and reduce our weight if we want to live long and healthy lives.
Wegovy vs Mounjaro
Wegovy and Mounjaro are both weight loss injection drugs that we are now offering at The Grove Skin & Laser Clinic. They both rival Ozempic in helping patients lose weight and deliver fantastic results. They are slightly different from one other, in that Wegovy utilises semaglutide as its active ingredient, whereas Mounjaro contains tirzepatide. Both of these drugs work by activating the GLP-1 receptor, which is the receptor that tells your brain when you are full.
Who can take advantage of weight loss drugs?
If you would like to explore using a weight loss drug such as Wegovy or Mounjaro we would invite you to make an appointment for a consultation. All patients are checked for suitability beforehand and are expected to make some lifestyle changes in terms of nutrition and exercise, so that they get the most out of being on a weight loss programme.
