These are all common questions we get asked here at the Grove Skin & Laser Clinic when it comes to our aesthetic treatments. All of our aesthetic treatments are results driven, however each treatment will vary in terms of downtime, the time required for the full benefits to show and how many sessions are required to get the maximum results.

This information is key for our patients as it forms part of the decision-making process in terms of when to book the treatments as we find the decision to have a treatment is usually based around an upcoming event, celebration or special occasion.

We’ve put together this guide to give you an insight for some of the most popular treatments.

• Pre-treatment consultation – many of our treatments require a consultation or patch test prior to the treatment taking place to ensure suitability. Some of these can be done ‘on-the-day’ where treatment can follow.
• Downtime is deemed as the amount of time required after your treatment before you can carry out certain activities such as exercise and even social events, due to redness or swelling etc. Side effects will vary between individuals
• Time to results is how long it will take before you start to see results from the treatment
• Sessions required is the number of sessions recommended in order to see the maximum benefits of the treatment
• Treatment Life cycle is how long the results of the treatment will last. In many cases the treatment forms part of an overall maintenance plan.

Botox (Anti-wrinkle Injections)

• Pre-treatment consultation: Yes. Treatment can take place on the same day
• Downtime: Zero however some patients may experience bruising
• Time to results: Maximum results seen after 10 – 14 days
• Sessions required: 1 – some patients may require a review
• Treatment Life cycle: 3 -5 months

Dermal Fillers (including Lip Fillers, Cheek Filler , nose to mouth lines (nasolabial), nose (Non-surgical Nose Job )

• Pre-treatment consultation: Yes. Treatment can take place on the same day
• Downtime: patients will experience swelling/bruising over a 2-5 day period
• Time to results: Immediately
• Sessions required: 1
• Treatment Life cycle: 4- 12 months depending on product selection and area being treated, also a patient’s lifestyle can affect the longevity of the treatment as certain activities/ lifestyle can speed up the breakdown of the dermal filler.

Laser Hair Removal

• Pre-treatment consultation: Yes. A compulsory patch test 48 hours prior.
• Downtime: Zero (however laser hair removal cannot be done whilst you are actively tanning)
• Time to results: 7 -21 days (hairs treated will fall out naturally over a period of between 7 and 21 days)
• Sessions required: 6 – 8 (4 to 8 weeks apart)
• Treatment Life cycle: While laser hair removal doesn’t get rid of hair permanently it does drastically reduce hair growth

Laser Tattoo Removal

• Pre-treatment consultation: Yes. Patch test required 48 hours
• Downtime: This will vary. Patients may experience 2 days of tenderness and up to 2 weeks of scabbing and bruising
• Time to results: Fading after treatment, however 4-6 weeks
• Sessions required: 4-16 (4 weeks between each session) The effectiveness of the treatment depends on many factors such as the age, location, depth, size and type of tattoo
• Treatment Life cycle: Permanent (after the recommended amount of sessions)

• Pre-treatment consultation: Yes
• Downtime: 7-10 days
• Time to results: 3 months
• Sessions required: 1-3
• Treatment Lifecycle: Dependent on health, age and post treatment skin care

Entry-Level Chemical Peels (Refresh, Pure & Glow)

• Pre-treatment consultation: Yes, to determine the most suitable treatment for your desired results. Treatment can take place on the same day
• Downtime: 0 – 5 days. Some patients may experience flaking of the skins.
• Time to results: 1 – 4 weeks
• Sessions required: 1 however recommended to have 3- 6 treatments dependent on what is being treated (approx. 2 weeks apart)
• Treatment Life cycle: We advise patients to have a chemical peel as part of a skin care maintenance programme

Mid-Level Chemical Peel (Obaji Blue Peel Radiance )

• Pre-treatment consultation: Yes, to determine the most suitable treatment for your desired results. Treatment can take place on the same day
• Downtime: 1 – 7 days. Some patients may experience flaking of the skins and possibly peeling.
• Time to results: 1 – 4 weeks
• Sessions required: 1 however recommended to have 3- 6 treatments dependent on what is being treated (approx. 2 weeks apart)
• Treatment Life cycle: We advise patients to have a chemical peel as part of a skin care maintenance programme

High-Level Chemical Peels (The Perfect Peel)

• Pre-treatment consultation: Yes, to determine the most suitable treatment for your desired results. Treatment can take place on the same day
• Downtime: 1 – 7 days. Patients will experience peeling of the skin
• Time to results: 1 – 4 weeks
• Sessions required: 1 – 3 peels
• Treatment Life cycle: We advise patients to have High- Level chemical peels every 6 to 12 months as part of a skin care maintenance programme

HydraFacial

• Pre-treatment consultation: No however we recommend a consultation in order to establish what desired results you wish to achieve from the treatment including the HydraFacial addons. Treatment can take place on the same day
• Downtime: Zero
• Time to results: Immediate and progressive
• Sessions required: Monthly maintenance
• Treatment Life cycle: 28 days – due to skin cell turnover

Micro-needling

• Pre-treatment consultation: Yes. Treatment can take place on the same day
• Downtime: 1 – 5 days
• Time to results: 1 – 4 weeks.
• Sessions required: 1 – 12
• Treatment Life cycle: This will be based on the patients personal preference, however a minimum of 28 days must be left between treatments.

For those having micro-needling for scarring, results can take up to 12 -14 weeks. After the recommended sessions have taken place there will be no need for additional treatments.

Sublime Skin Tightening Treatment

• Pre-treatment consultation: Yes. Treatment can take place on the same day
• Downtime: Patients will experience some pinkness of the skin on the day of the treatment
• Time to results: 4 – 12 weeks
• Sessions required: 4 – 6
• Treatment Life cycle: After the initial recommended number of sessions patients can opt to have a treatment once every 3-6 months to maintain results.
