Laser Pigmentation Introduction

Offering a lasting and noticeable solution, The Grove Skin & Laser Clinic specialises in laser treatment for laser pigment removal.

At The Grove Skin & Laser Clinic we utilise the latest gold standard laser technology from market leaders to ensure optimal results for our patients while ensuring the patient experience is as comfort as possible and treatment speed optimal.

Additionally, we are registered and inspected by the Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW), as required by law in Wales for any facility offering laser or IPL hair removal. Ensuring the highest standards of safety and care for our patients.

This advanced treatment targets, breaks up, and lightens deep sun damage, freckles and hormonal melasma, promoting a more uniform skin tone.

The laser targets only the pigmented lesion in the skin which absorbs the light, without damage to the surrounding skin. The laser heats up and shatters the pigment, which is then drawn to the surface. Once drawn to the surface, the pigmented lesions will fade and or flake off leaving the skin with an even tone.

Skin Conditions Laser Pigment Can Treat

Laser Pigment removal treatment can help with the following skin conditions:

  • Freckles: a cluster of cells which have produced more melanin. They’re prominent on people with fair skin and most common in children. They’re caused by exposure to the sun.
  • Birthmarks: caused by the over-production of melanin in localised areas from birth.
  • Sun spots/age spots: a result of exposure to the sun over a long period of time.
  • Melasma: also known as pregnancy mask. This is the darkening of the skin on the face and body – commonly the linea nigra on the stomach.
  • Post-inflammatory marks: any dark mark that is left on the skin after a burn, spot, cut or other injury has healed due to the trauma the skin has endured. Acne scars also come under this category.

Laser Pigment Process

Before commencing on your laser pigment removal journey you need a compulsory consultation and patch test. This is a legal requirement and forms part of our registration with HIW. During this appointment a full medical history will be taken and discussed to ensure there are no reasons why you can’t proceed with your laser pigment removal.

Discussing what laser is, how it works, how we perform the treatment on area/s, overall expectations, results, safety, aftercare and risks, pricing, what to expect after treatment and maintenance sessions. Giving advice on holidays tanning and shaving, and possible treatment intervals.

Once your laser specialist is happy you are suitable for treatment and you fully understand the process a few shots of the laser will be done in the area you wish to have treated.

You will be booked in after 48 hours for your first full treatment.

At your first full session a quick recap of consultation is given.

Specialised eyewear will be given and  ice or cooling used on some patients depending on colouring of area and pain management. This is based on the laser expert Micheal Murphy Method.

Pre-cooling, during and post cooling is most commonly used on the face. Skin types two and above, as these skin types are more prone to natural skin discolouration. The ice will reduce the heat felt by the patient whilst staying at the regular setting achieving a more consistent overall result.

The full session is then performed.

After the session Aloe Vera is applied and a recap of at home aftercare along with booking in your next session.

FAQ'S

( Q )
What Should I Expect After My First Laser Pigment Removal Treatment?

Darkening of pigmentation 1 to 24 hours.

Pigmentation lasts several weeks.

The patch/s becoming crispy or dry with 1 to 2 weeks after laser.

Slight pinky or red colouring to the skin afterwards for 2 weeks and can last up to 6 months after laser.

Possibly feeling warm the first day like sunburn.

Pigmentation falls off 1 to 4 weeks after laser.

After pigmentation has fallen of the skin a Pink patch may occur where this skin is still healing- this may take 6 months to turn back to normal skin colour.

All patients heal at different rates, the above can be shortened or extended due to age, medication, genetics and overall patient health.

( Q )
Does Laser Pigment Removal Hurt?

Laser pigment removal is described as a little elastic band flick, however due to the laser machine we use it is a much milder sensation and one of the least painful devices available.

( Q )
Will I See Immediate Results From My First Session?

Darkening of pigmentation initially is all you will see, therefore the area can look more noticeable before it fades.

( Q )
How Long Does Each Session Last?

It will be dependent on which body area you are having pigment removed from. For example, one pigmented spot on the face will take a couple of minutes, full chest for freckles and evening skin time 15 minutes.

( Q )
How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Due to the depth of the pigment being unknown it’s hard to give accurate advice, however on average we say 1-6 sessions, 4-8 weeks apart.

( Q )
What Isn’t Normal?

If any after effect occurs from the list below, please inform the clinic.  Extreme pain or pain getting worse not easing. Bleeding unless caused by shaving. Bruising. Blisters or burns. Bad Rash after treatment.

( Q )
When Is The Best Time To Book Laser Pigment Removal?

Laser pigment removal cannot be done whilst you are actively tanning. Therefore we recommend that you begin the course of treatments during the winter months. However, if the area you are having treated is not exposed to the sun or you can safely cover up then there is no harm in having the treatment anytime of the year.

( Q )
How Much Does Laser Pigment Removal Cost?

Prices start from £40 per session depending on the area of the body that you are having treated. Please see our full price list for future information. A 10% discount is applied when purchasing 3 sessions or more and 25% when a course of 6 or more are purchased. Payment plans are also available.
